Do your feet sweat excessively? Do you pay enough attention to calluses and other kinds of footsore? Are there any signs of varicose veins? Or maybe you are fond of water facilities in public places such as swimming pools, saunas, the beach, and so on?
Everything mentioned above can be the reason for the fungus to grow that affects both the skin on feet and toenails. A fungal infection on the feet will reveal itself by skin inflammation and exfoliation that later turn into bubble-like formations which break and cause different wounds — erosions and ulcers.
Accompanied by pain, itching, and bedded skin detachment. In some time, these symptoms may almost disappear, but all that is just a sign that the disease has transferred from the acute form to chronic when the fungus hides in the human body to appear suddenly in any prosperous moment. Nail disorder also happens to be quite visible: first, thin lines or white spots appear on the surface of the nail, then it loses its’ natural gloss and changes structure.
On the last stage, the nail becomes thicker and acquires a loose structure and turns a gray, or yellow color.
Fungus Treatment at Home
To start treating the disease with the help of homemade remedies on your own, remove affected nail areas, and be ready to disinfect your shoes, clothing, your bathroom, and cosmetics for foot care on a regular basis:
- Coconut oil suppresses inflammation of fungus infection, moisturizes and smoothes skin. Rub this natural remedy twice a day during one-two months, and you will get rid of toenail fungus.
- To cleanse clothing, wash them in boiling water with lye soap — 1 cm 3 for 5 liters. To make sure it helps, add ½ teaspoon of soda.
- To wash shoes, mix 40% vinegar acid and 25% formalin solution in equal parts, dip a cotton ball in this mixture, and wipe the inner part of your shoes. Throw away used balls, and put new ones saturated with such mixture inside each of your boots. Make some more balls, and pack them into separate plastic bags.
- To cleanse surfaces in the bathroom where, as you suppose, fungus spores hide, use chlorinated water mixed with a laundry detergent.
- Cosmetic items can be put into alcohol, or processed with fire if it is appropriate for metals they are made of.
Without such disinfection, treatment can be considered useless.
How to use Coconut Oil for Toenail Fungus Treatment?
The list of natural oils successfully applied in medicine can be topped with coconut essence. Surprisingly, healing properties of this wonderful product were known even in Cleopatra’s era — women were aware that natural components can greatly help to save youth and beauty. Since then, people have been using coconut oil to care for their skin, hair, hands and feet.
This substance is produced from coconut fruit flesh. It is quite easy to make: flesh is detached from the shell, then it is dried, and then oil is isolated by expression. It can be refined or non-refined. As a rule, the refined substance is used in cosmetology.
How can Coconut Oil be useful for Nails?
Indeed, the contents of coconut oils are rich in wholesome fatty acids (oleic, lauric, caproic, hexadecanoic acid and others), antioxidants, and vitamins (including А, С, Е). Coconut oil is also used as an effective moisturizer from the hyaluronic acid, thanks to which this remedy acquires deep moisturizing properties.
Another advantage of coconut oil is that it can be stored for a long time — even outside a refrigerator — not spoiling even after several heats. Even in this case it still preserves all useful properties.
Undoubtedly, coconut oil is widely used for hair and skin care. The product is also applied for hand and nail care — as a revitalizing, regenerating, moisturizing, healing and antimycotic agent.
The benefits of coconut oil are conditioned, first of all, by the presence of vitamin E: this substance contributes to strengthening and healthy nails if the remedy is used properly. In the case of fragile and dry nails, use coconut oil on a constant basis and they will become shiny, strong and optimally moisturized.
How can Coconut Oil be used?
There is a reasonable opinion that coconut oil, together with the above-mentioned advantages, has antimycotic properties. Probably, that can explain the fact that coconut oil is used as a constituent of remedies created for mycosis treatment.
Coconut oil for nails can be used in different ways: it is applied both in its pure form or as a constituent of different care remedies, such as masks, creams, and oil baths for nails. Even the first trial care and revitalization applications will bring their fruits immediately: coconut oil improves nails just like skin and hair without any contraindications or negative consequences.
Remedies for Toenail Fungus-based on Coconut Oil
First, the nail surface should be prepared so that it can absorb all useful substances.
Preparation: Pour 2 liters of warm water into a footbath (make water relatively hot, but so that you can keep your feet there) and add a bit of pine-tar soap, extract of propolis, essential oil of tea tree, iodine or vinegar. Put your feet into this footbath, soak for more than 15 minutes, after which the next step of treatment can begin.
Implement this procedure once a day, in the evening.
Method 1: Apply the coconut oil on affected nails in even layers. Oil can be distributed easily by a cotton ball or ear bud. It should be applied 2-3 times a day. After the procedure, wait 10-15 minutes patiently so that it could be absorbed well.
How often: The duration of treatment on initial stages is about 2-4 months, and more complicated cases of onychomycosis (which is treated with pills) require up to one year of curing.
Remember that homemade remedies are effective on the initial disease stages only. If fungus affected a nail entirely, complex treatment with ointments and pills is required, and coconut oil can be used in addition to it, only after preliminary consultations with a dermatologist.
Method 2: To make a special paste for fungus treatment, moisten two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds, and when they become fully wet, ground them so that to make a paste. Then add 150 ml of coconut oil, and mix to make a homogenous substance.
How often: Warm the mixture in a water-bath for 5-7 minutes. When it is cooled, apply the substance to the affected nails, 2 to 4 times a day. Perform the procedures daily until a healthy nail grows.
